Excited about marketing a Business Opportunity, many people seek the path of lease resistance. Along this path, they prefer not to call their friends and family, but to acquire a list to market. These lists are for sale, but come with Danger, as well as embarrassment! Forget about someone peddling a list as Opt-In or Double Opt-In. They didn't Opt-In to Your Product, Your Site, and you have a very dangerous line to walk. Avoid!

First, consider the list. If the list has 10,000 names of other Network Marketers, where did it come from? Most sellers of MLM Lists actually provide the name of the MLM Company the list was acquired from.
Second, Network Marketers joined that other MLM Company, with Trust, they provided their Name, Email, and Other data in the Back Office of the company's MLM Software. For this list to be make available to you, one of three things has happened.
a.) The site was hacked and data harvested.
b.) The MLM Company sold out the distributors by selling these lists.
c.) A Distributor built the list from his Back-Office, stole the names, and sold the list.
In the end, existing MLM Distributors do not wish to be bombarded by your marketing attempts that will come next. They joined that previous company, and in good faith, entered their personal details, often with a request to be communicated with by the Sponsor, and or the MLM Company, not you. These MLM Leads have no idea who you are and have Zero Trust.
Relationship. The best downlines are build on Relationship of Trust and Honesty, Solid Compensation Plan, and Products they can be Passionate about. You don't build Relationship with MLM Lead Lists.
Likewise the online business person has issued lots of press releases. The reason for these press releases is to educate the consumer on the benefits of using their particular product or service. When the person sends spam to mlm leads obtained from a mlm list the potential customer has no way of knowing the benefits of your product or service. They have not been educated. Nor do you have the ability to educate them because you are simply another person downline.
Finally, consider Can Spam Laws. Furthermore, individual State Laws which most are unaware of! Often emails are in clear violation of the law. In most areas, breaking this law is accompanied with large fines. Some States, under Child Protection Laws, have provided a method for Parents and Guardians to post the email addresses of minors into a Do Not Email List. These state laws can be even more serious, as some will allow a domain to be listed. That would cover everyone, not just a child. Additionally, the law itself is often so specific that an email sent to that list attempting to sell a car or truck can bring down full legal action. How do you think a Business Opportunity will be viewed?
In my opinion, there are 3 major issues in the MLM Business that you will be in extreme trouble with, when caught sending to a minor.
a.) Are you soliciting the individual to spend money?
b.) Are you collecting Personal Data during signup? Name, Address, City/State/Zip, DOB, Social?
c.) Are you requiring they abide by an Agreement, Contract, Terms and Conditions?
If you are caught emailing an individual on this list, under Child Protection Laws, you are doing so with full intent of the three items mentioned above. The penalty will be high.
Wait! Some MLM List Companies, and Some Autoresponder Companies actually offer to send the emails for you.
Furthermore, they allow you to setup a series of emails to continue bombarding the person with offers and enticements.
Better yet, these companies often state that they check the list against the State Child Protection Lists!
RUN! Don't fall for it! You have no recourse if they failed to check, lied, or pulled old data. You are directly liable and at fault.
Regarding Bulk Email or Spam in general. Besides actual laws which can burn you hard, researchers have found that email owners only open about 60% of the emails that they receive.
Why would you seek to acquire a list, take such huge risks, and have very little odds of the email being opened, much less engaging in the message, clicking a link, and visiting your MLM Website? Don't do it!
Successful MLM Companies and Successful MLM Downlines are build on Relationship of Trust and Honesty, Solid Compensation Plan, and Products they can be Passionate about.
a.) Be Honest in what you do, what you sell, how you handle relationships and data.
b.) Provide a generous and equitable MLM Compensation Plan
c.) Provide Products, with Great Value, that you and Others can be passionate about.
Become a Product of the Product and share it with others.
Build on Relationship!
